Artist on Your Doorstep
Home: Artist on Your Doorstep was a project commissioned by Creative Academies to work with young people aged 16 - 24 and six Sandwell-based artists to develop and creating new artworks, performances and stories.
The artworks are inspired by oral histories from the multi-cultural neighbourhoods of Sandwell - Bearwood, Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Tipton, Wednesbury, Smethwick and West Bromwich, gathered as part of HOME, a heritage project. The HOME project enables young people to research the untold stories of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E.) groups. Oral histories interviews and documentary research has been carried out by the artists to map Sandwell’s multicultural landscape from the perspective of their own home towns.
Each artist worked alongside the young people to take them through the R&D journey of interpreting the neighbourhood stories. Ampersand Projects delivered training to the young producer panel in creative production, arts marketing and project management to devise Sandwell’s first alternative Arts Bus Tour - as the artists open the ‘doors’ to their communities.
Home: Artist on Your Doorstep is commissioned by Creative Academies, Sandwell and funded by Arts Council England.
